Princess Eugenie Wedding Tiara Details

Publish date: 2024-07-03

Per royal etiquette, tiaras are reserved for married royals–and Princess Eugenie of York will undoubtedly embrace the royal tradition when she weds Jack Brooksbank on October 12th at the all-too-familiar St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The couple set their October wedding date at the same venue yet months apart from Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle, out of respect to Harry's place in line to the throne.

Like Meghan Markle and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, Eugenie will have her pick of royal headpieces to choose from for her walk down the aisle, but there is one piece that seems the most likely contender for her wedding day.

The York Tiara, worn by Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, at her wedding to Prince Andrew in 1986 seems the most fitting choice for the soon-t0-be royal bride. The piece was a gift from the Queen and Prince Phillip to Sarah for her wedding day, and was designed by London-based jeweler Garrard. While Fergie wore the crown to several black tie occasions during her marriage to Prince Andrew, the tiara was a part of her private jewelry collection, and it's expected that she still owns the piece, making it an easy loan for Princess Eugenie.

The legion of young, modern royals likes to do things a bit differently, as Meghan and Harry did on their wedding day, and so it's possible Eugenie could choose a piece she likes simply because it suits her wedding gown, or because she's spent years admiring it. With reports tallying the cost of Eugenie's wedding at approximately $45 million, it seems no expense is being spared, and so it's even possible the princess could opt to design her own–although it's not likely.

History proves that it's most common for young royal brides to choose a tiara with a tie to their family, but Harper's BAZAAR UK reports that Eugenie may "pick one of the striking pieces from the royal collection."
